Start Page & Browser - SiteKiosk Help

This section lets you define a start page and the overall design of your SiteKiosk browser interface. You can customize the interface by either applying a Browser layout or using a special Start Page. Both options are available in the selection window.

Use the two buttons intended for selecting the monitor to switch between the primary and secondary monitor settings.

In addition, SiteKiosk versions 9.7 and higher include a SiteCaster Digital Signage CMS solution for the primary and secondary monitor. SiteCaster allows you to create projects using SiteRemote the content of which you will then also be able to play pack in SiteKiosk. SiteKiosk can also share the primary monitor with SiteCaster.

Notes for usage of the SiteCaster:
Using SiteCaster requires a SiteRemote team, this will enable you to use the SiteCaster editor to create the content you want to display on your kiosk systems.
Please note that some SiteKiosk options are not available when using SiteCaster. These options will be deactivated.

Notes for usage of the Chrome Browser versions:
Please note that some SiteKiosk options are not available when using the Chrome Browser versions. These options will be deactivated.
The full feature set of some on-screen keyboards cannot be used.

Notes for usage of Digital Signage (legacy product):
Digital Signage is discontinued and can only be used with existing configuration files. Please use SiteCaster instead.
If you use Digital Signage, the settings for the content you want to display are defined in the SiteRemote team account under Digital Signage.

1. Primary/Secondary Monitor

Use the buttons for primary and secondary monitor to switch between the configuration pages for the content to display on these devices. The options for the primary monitor can be found below, the options for the secondary monitor can be found here.

2. Browser layout or Start Page layout

SiteKiosk comes standard with a number of different design samples which are either based on the Internet Explorer browser engine or Chrome. A browser layout or skin distinguishes itself from special Start Pages which offer different sets of features.

2.1 Select browser layout
Select the skin (browser layout) that best suits your needs. This skin will then be used as the basic layout for all web pages. The layouts that come standard with SiteKiosk include all necessary features and work with any number of imaginable SiteKiosk configuration options.

While the layout shown in the middle of the selection window is selected by default, you can also make a different selection using the mouse.

2.2 Customize browser layout
The displayed browser layout may (or may not) include a Customize button which lets you make custom adjustments to the respective skin.

The customizable settings also include an option to adjust the available languages.

Click on the CUSTOMIZE button to make the adjustments you which to make. The customizable options will always apply to the selected layout (skin) only. If the Customize button is grayed out, you will not be able to make any direct adjustments to the browser layout you selected.

The browser's display options are virtually unlimited thanks to the built-in SiteSkin technology. The browser layout is based on standard Web technologies such as HTML/JavaScript and the SiteKiosk Object Model. It is, therefore, possible for anyone who is halfway familiar with HTML programming to create new designs or adjust existing ones.

The Start Page is of particular importance. The Start Page is loaded every time the SiteKiosk browser is launched and the user presses the Home or Logout icon in the toolbar.

When defining a Start Page layout, you can either choose a predefined layout (also referred to as Start Page templates) or your own web pages which you may have stored on your local hard drive or on the Web.

You can also set up your own web page or local files on the Configuration page named Start Page. If you do not want to use a Start Page that you have already created on the Internet or stored on your hard drive, you can also use the Start Page templates that come with SiteKiosk.

Some Start Page templates require that you select an additional Browser layout, which will then be used in new windows or on subsequent pages. You can make this selection by pressing on the Customize button of the selected template.

2.3 Select Start Page layout
Select the template that best suits your needs. While the template that is currently shown is selected automatically, you can use your mouse to make a different selection.

2.4 Customize Start Page layout
Adjusting the predefined contents and options available in the Start Page template does not require any special programming skills. The options for customizing and adjusting a template vary with the template you have selected.

Since SiteKiosk Start Pages are based on common technologies such as HTML/JavaScript and the SiteKiosk Object Model, anyone sufficiently skilled in these technologies will be able to make custom adjustments using an editor.

3. Start Page

Use this section to specify the Start Page you wish to display in SiteKiosk. Depending on the browser skin you selected, the Start Page may not be displayed until new windows are opened or other type of surfing activity takes place.

4. Split Screen

Use the split screen button to choose whether you want to display a combination of SiteKiosk and SiteCaster on the main screen of a machine.

5. Full screen

Click on the Full screen button to always display SiteKiosk in full screen or limit full screen view to certain pages. The displayed content will then exclude the elements of the browser interface.

6. Advanced

Click on the Advanced button to open additional display options for SiteKiosk.
